New IRC channel #jka-siege on QuakeNet.

So me and some others decided to start an irc channel for all the siegers to hang out in and chat. Most clans in other games use IRC, I never quite understood why it was never introduced to siegers but we might as well give it a shot. Some of you might not be familiar with IRC so here's a short description from wikipedia.

"Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is a chat system on the Internet. It allows people from around the world to have conversations together, but it can also be used to have a private one-on-one conversation.

The IRC chat rooms are also called IRC channels. These channels are on IRC servers, which you can connect to by finding that server's information. This information will often begin with "irc," then a period, the name of the server, then another period, and finally, .com or .net. An example would be irc.deltaanime.net"

The good thing about IRC is that we can all chat live, whenever we feel like it, and if the channel works out well there will always be some people to talk in the channel. To do the same thing with XFIRE you need to start chatroom and invite people everytime you want to chat collectively, and still it's not the same because it's not open for everyone, compared to an irc channel XFIRE is a very troublesome way of chatting in groups.

The Channel is named #Jka-siege and it is on the Quakenet server (irc.quakenet.org) and we have already gotten a bot so it's up and running 24/7.

For those who don't know how to connect to an IRC channel, I'll explain it here.

There are two ways to join an IRC channel, either you use an IRC-program (mIRC for example) or you join through a web-based client. The latter is easier, but I also recommend to install an IRC-program for ease of use in the long run.

Here's how you do it:

1. Go to http://webchat.quakenet.org/ or http://www.mibbit.com/chat/

On webchat fill in your desired nickname and #jka-siege as channel nad press "Connect", done.

On mibbit pick Quakenet as server and your desired nickname and #jka-siege as channel and press "Go", done.

2. Through mIRC:

Go to http://www.mirc.com and download mIRC (for free), once downloaded, install it and run it. When the registration window pops up just click continue (registration will never be necessary). Once you've done that, the "mIRC options" window will pop up, first press the "Servers" link on the list to the left, choose QuakeNet and press "Select", now fill in all the necessary information (nickname etc) and then press Connect and you'll be connected to Quakenet, once connected another window will pop up asking you for what channel to join, write #jka-siege and press "Join". Now you're connected to the channel! If you want to change nick just write /nick yournewnickname, here is a list of some other useful commands (which will also work on the net-based clients):

Everyone is welcome and hopefully you'll enjoy your stay! If you have any questions, just ask.
